Part 1: The Shepherd Boy

1 Samuel 16:11-13

David was a young shepherd boy, taking care of his father's sheep in the hills of Bethlehem. He was small and unassuming, but his heart was full of courage and faith. Every day, he would watch over the sheep, playing his harp and singing songs of praise to God.

Little did David know, his life was about to change forever. For God had chosen him to be the next king of Israel, and He would use a prophet named Samuel to anoint him.

Part 2: The Prophet's Calling

1 Samuel 16:1-3

Samuel was a prophet of God, known for his ability to hear and obey God's voice. One day, he heard God say to him, "I am sending you to Bethlehem. I have chosen one of Jesse's sons to be king."

Samuel was nervous about his task, for King Saul was still reigning over Israel at the time. But God reassured him, saying, "Do not be afraid. I will show you what to do."

So, Samuel set out on his journey to Bethlehem, with a heavy heart and a mind full of questions.

Part 3: The Anointing

1 Samuel 16:6-13

When Samuel arrived in Bethlehem, he went to Jesse's house and asked to see his sons. Jesse brought out seven of his sons, but Samuel knew that none of them were the one God had chosen.

"Are these all the sons you have?" Samuel asked.

Jesse hesitated for a moment, then said, "There is still the youngest. He is tending the sheep."

Samuel called for David, and when he walked in, Samuel knew at once that he was the one God had chosen. He poured oil on David's head and anointed him in front of his brothers.

From that day on, the Spirit of the Lord came upon David in power, and he knew that God had a special purpose for his life.

Part 4: The Waiting

1 Samuel 22:1-2; 24:1-22

David didn't become king right away, though. Instead, he went back to the fields to watch over the sheep. For the next ten years, he waited patiently for God's plan to unfold, knowing that one day he would be king.

During this time, David faced many challenges and obstacles. He was persecuted by Saul and his men, and he had to flee for his life. But through it all, he trusted in God's timing and promises.

David's story is one of faith, courage, and perseverance. He went from being a small shepherd boy to the greatest king in Israel's history, all because he trusted in God's plan for his life. His legacy lives on to this day, through the many psalms he wrote and the example he set for future generations
