The Joy Set Before Jesus

Part 1: The Crown of Thorns

Matthew 27:27-31

In the heart of a Roman fortress, soldiers led Jesus into a hall. They had heard he was called the "King of the Jews," so in their minds, they thought a king needed a crown. Instead of gold or jewels, they twisted together thorny branches and gently set it upon his head. Jesus stood still, bearing it with quiet dignity. Though meant as a mockery, the crown became a symbol of his deep love and sacrifice.

Part 2: Bearing the Cross

John 19:17

With the dawn casting its first rays, Jesus was handed a heavy wooden cross to carry. It represented the weight of all the wrong things in the world. With each step towards Calvary, he bore it with purpose, knowing that this journey held deep significance.

Part 3: Simon's Assistance

Mark 15:21

As they walked, the weight of the cross grew heavy. From the crowd, a man named Simon of Cyrene was asked to help Jesus. Together, they carried the cross, an act that showed even in the hardest times, kindness and help can emerge.

Part 4: A Hill Called Golgotha

Matthew 27:33-35

Upon reaching a place called Golgotha, Jesus was placed upon the cross. There, with the vast sky overhead, he showed immense bravery and love. He looked at those around him and even in those moments, he thought of their well-being, asking for forgiveness for them.

Part 5: The Promise of Paradise

Luke 23:39-43

Beside Jesus were two others. One of them, realizing Jesus' true nature, said, "Remember me when you come into your kingdom." Jesus, with compassion in his eyes, replied, "Today, you will be with me in paradise." In the midst of pain, Jesus' words offered hope and a glimpse of the joy set before him.

Part 6: It Is Finished

John 19:28-30

As the hours passed, a sense of completion descended. Knowing that everything had been accomplished and that the world would forever change because of this day, Jesus said, "It is finished." With that, he bowed his head, signaling the end of one journey and the beginning of a new hope for everyone.
