The Seeds & Sower

Matthew 13

The Seeds & Sower

Part 1: A Seaside Lesson

Matthew 13:1-2

Jesus went out of the house and sat by the sea, where large crowds gathered to hear Him. To ensure everyone could hear Him clearly, Jesus got into a boat and sat down while the crowd stood on the beach.

Part 2: The Parable Begins

Matthew 13:3-4

Jesus started teaching the people through parables. He shared a story about a sower who went out to sow seeds. As he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, where birds came and ate them up.

Part 3: The Rocky Soil

Matthew 13:5-6

Some seeds fell on rocky places with shallow soil. The plants sprouted quickly but, due to a lack of deep roots, withered when the sun scorched them.

Part 4: The Thorns and Weeds (Matthew 13:7)

Other seeds fell among weeds and thorns. As the weeds and thorns grew, they blocked the sunlight and choked the plants, preventing them from thriving.

Part 5: The Good Soil

Matthew 13:8

Finally, some seeds fell on good soil, where they grew and produced abundant fruit – sometimes yielding 30, 60, or even 100 times what was sown.

Part 6: The Meaning of the Parable

Matthew 13:19-23

Jesus later explained to His disciples that the seeds symbolized God's word, and the different types of soil represented different responses to God's message. The path symbolized a heart that hears but doesn't understand or receive the word, while the rocky ground represented someone who receives the word with joy but doesn't have deep roots to endure.

The thorns symbolized the worries of life that choke the word, preventing it from growing. The good soil, however, represented a person who hears the word, understands it, and allows it to flourish within their heart, producing a bountiful harvest.

Part 7: The Lesson of the Parable

The parable of the sower teaches us that when we listen to God's word and say yes to His plan, something extraordinary will grow within our hearts. We can choose to invite God to produce love, strength, joy, or any other virtues in our lives
