The Sermon on the Mount
Matthew 5
In Galilee's gentle embrace, Jesus ascended a hill. Crowds flocked, eyes full of wonder. With the sun warming the scene, Jesus spoke, his voice carrying promises:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
theirs is the bright kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who feel sadness,
they'll be wrapped up in comfort.
Blessed are the meek, the whole wide earth is for them.
Those craving to do right will be filled.
And the kind-hearted? They'll get kindness back.
The clean-hearted will see God,
and the peacemakers? They’ll be called God's very own kids.
If people are mean because you’re doing good,
still, you're blessed.
And if they say untrue mean things about you because of me,”
Jesus said, looking into their eyes, “Stay happy, because heaven is cheering for you."
Matthew 5:13-15
Drawing them closer, Jesus shared, "You are the salt of the earth and the light of the world." He smiled, "Don't hide your light. Shine bright, so everyone can see and praise God."
Matthew 5:38-48
"Remember the old rule, 'an eye for an eye'?" Jesus asked, "Well, I’m teaching a new way: Love your enemies. Pray for those who aren't kind to you. That's what children of your Father in heaven do."
Matthew 6
"When you help others, do it quietly, not for show,” Jesus taught. "And when you talk to God, find a quiet place. Remember, He knows what you need even before you ask."
He then shared a simple prayer, one for daily needs and forgiveness. "When you fast," He continued, "keep it between you and God."Talking about treasures, Jesus said, "Your real treasures aren't things you can touch. They're in heaven." He assured them, "God takes care of the birds and flowers. He'll care for you too. Don't worry about tomorrow."
Matthew 7:1-23
"Don’t judge others, and you won’t be judged," Jesus said. "If you want good things, just ask God. Keep asking, and doors will open."He cautioned them, "Not all paths are good. Choose the narrow one that leads to life. Watch out for false prophets, who pretend to be good but aren't."Finishing this part, Jesus said, "It's not just saying you know me, but doing God’s will that matters."
Matthew 7:24-29
Jesus ended with a story: "If you hear my words and follow them, you're like a smart builder who builds on a rock. Storms can't shake it. But if you ignore my words, your house can crash."
With that, the sermon concluded. The crowds were amazed at his teaching. It was clear; Jesus wasn’t like other teachers. He taught with authority, and his words found a home in many hearts.
