David's Reign as King

Part 1: David Becomes King

2 Samuel 5:1-5

After King Saul passed away, the people of Israel knew it was time for David to become their new king. They gathered in a place called Hebron, and together they anointed David as their leader. David was only 30 years old when he started ruling, and he would be king for 40 years. Under his leadership, Israel became stronger and more prosperous.

Part 2: The City of David

2 Samuel 5:6-12

David wanted a special city to be the heart of his kingdom, so he chose Jerusalem. The city was well-protected and controlled by a group called the Jebusites. David and his army bravely captured Jerusalem, and it became known as the City of David. Jerusalem turned into the most important city in Israel, and David's name became famous far and wide.

Part 3: Bringing Home the Ark

2 Samuel 6:1-19

David wanted to bring the Ark of the Covenant, a special symbol of God being with His people, to Jerusalem. So, he gathered a big group of Israel's best soldiers and went to the house where the Ark was. They carried the Ark on a new cart and celebrated with singing, dancing, and lots of music. But during the journey, the oxen pulling the cart stumbled, and a man named Uzzah tried to catch the Ark. Sadly, God struck him down because he wasn't supposed to touch it. David was scared and left the Ark at a man named Obed-Edom's house for three months. Later, when David heard that God had blessed Obed-Edom's house because of the Ark, he brought the Ark to Jerusalem with even more rejoicing and offered special gifts to God.

Part 4: David's Love for God

Psalm 23

Even though David became a great king, he always remembered his time as a shepherd boy. He was known for being close to God's heart. David wrote many beautiful songs called psalms that showed how much he loved God. One of his most famous psalms, Psalm 23, talks about God being like a shepherd who takes care of His people, just like David took care of his sheep.
