An age-old custom offered the crowd a choice to free one prisoner during the Passover festival. Presented with Jesus and Barabbas, a notorious criminal, Pilate believed they would choose Jesus. But the influential leaders swayed the crowd. Their voices, unified in a haunting chant, cried out, "Release Barabbas!" and "Crucify him!" for Jesus.
